Family Fun Run & Walk at Hainesville Fest to Promote YBLC Programs for Young Adults

YouthBuild Lake County (YBLC) and Round Lake Park American Legion Post 1170 are adding a new Family 1.5 Mile Fun Run & Walk to this year's Hainesville Fest, Saturday, August 25th.  Since the run will be completed before the festival opens, you won’t miss any of the fun, and you’ll be improving more than your health; you'll be helping to expand education and job training programs for young adults in Lake County that find themselves in need of a second chance for a better life.

The Fun Run is being held to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist at YBLC for at-risk young adults (17-24) throughout Lake County who are determined to complete the education and job training needed to compete in today’s world.

“Because we’re located in North Chicago, people think all our students are from North Chicago but over 70% of our students are from other communities in the county,” says Executive Director Laurel Tustison.  “We want to be sure that young people throughout all of Lake County are aware of our programs so that they too can take advantage of them.”

“YBLC students go from 95% unemployed to 78% placement in jobs or college,” adds Tustison.  “Many of them earn their GED, learn construction, weatherization or automotive job skills and find gainful employment. Others go on to college. These young people work hard to get into the program, and to finish. When they're done most are on the path to self-sufficiency and a better life for themselves and their families. We are the second chance they need.”

Hainesville Fest runs from Noon until 9pm on Saturday, August 25th.  Bring the family! Come for the Family Fun Run and stay for the day!
