SEDOL and the SEDOL Foundation hold Annual Grant-O-Rama
SEDOL and the SEDOL Foundation’s annual Grant-O-Rama was held on November 30 to showcase the many innovative programs and accomplishments that have been made possible through grant funding. The SEDOL Foundation raises money through special events and private grants and in turn provides grants to many programs that enrich the lives of the children in the SEDOL community.
Grants by the SEDOL Foundation were awarded to programs such as “Help them to Hear” which provides hearing aids and hearing assisted technology to families who cannot afford it, and “Eating Fresh” where students grow their own organic herbs and vegetables and learn about healthy eating.
The Special Education District of Lake County – “SEDOL” - is responsible for providing physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged children up to age 22 with educational opportunities appropriate to each child’s needs. Created in 1960, SEDOL is a cooperative system that serves over 2,600 students, 400 square miles and 35 Lake County school districts.
While the Special Education District’s services are comprehensive, there are important life-enhancing resources that the organization simply can’t provide because of funding limitations. That’s where the SEDOL Foundation comes in.
Believing that every child deserves the opportunity to develop to their full potential, the not-for-profit Foundation was created in 1991 to partner with SEDOL, special needs children and their families to overcome difficult challenges and create hope and new possibilities.
The Foundation does this by supplying both funding and guidance for a wide range of supplemental resources and activities not covered by tax dollars. And, with the availability of exciting new technologies and other enabling resources, there is a growing opportunity to make a real, positive difference in the lives of the children and their families.
ABOUT THE SEDOL FOUNDATION - The mission of the SEDOL Foundation is to
generate and distribute resources that enrich the educational, vocational,
and social opportunities for over 2,600 physically and mentally disabled
children and their families from 35 school districts in Lake County, IL.
The Foundation is dedicated to helping these children, their parents and
siblings with support and services that the district cannot provide
because public funding falls short of the enormous needs. ~The Foundation
seeks funds and other resources for these special families, many of whom
are stretched both financially and emotionally in ways most of us will
never know. ~For them, the list of needs is extremely long and growing.
For a variety of reasons, all of these students desperately need our help.
~The Internal Revenue Service recognizes the SEDOL Foundation as a 501(c)
(3) organization (public charity). ~All donations made to the SEDOL
Foundation are fully tax deductible in accordance with Internal Revenue
Service regulations. ~Tax ID# 36-3803599
