Village Hires Heritage Center Executive Director

The Village of Grayslake recently announced the hiring of their first ever Heritage Center Executive Director, Dave Oberg. Mr. Oberg has been the Executive Director for the Geneva History Center for the past four years and has served as a past president of Illinois Association of Museums.

"We are pleased to have Mr. Orberg joining our team. He will play a large role in helping to make the Grayslake Heritage Center and Historical Museum the best museum in the area," said Mayor Rhett Taylor.

The hiring of an Executive Director for the Heritage Center was a condition of the recent agreement between the Village of Grayslake and Grayslake Historical Society to continue jointly operating the Center. Mr. Oberg's new duties for the Center include overseeing general operations, providing assistance to programs and establishing a fundraising program. He will also be a member of the Heritage Center Committee, which will include  members from both the Historical Society and the Village Board.

Also as part of the agreement, the Historical Society will continue to lend its archives, artifacts and displays for use by the Heritage Center and also provide assistance in the operations of the center.

The Heritage Center recently expanded and renovated their current location, 164 Hawley Street. The expanded facilities contain a gallery reception area, community room with kitchen facilities, class room, flexible, permanent and public exhibit areas and archives. Mr. Orberg will assume the new position at the Heritage Center at the end of October.
