Acoustic Acts Hit the Oasis

Tim Koda, Shades of Grey, Kate Diaz, Joe Sena, Fur Coats for Sportsmen, and Cody Cummings take the stage at the Oasis Youth Center.

A wave of soothing and chilled vibes filled the atmosphere at the this past Friday. Musical groups/solo acts Tim Koda, Shades of Grey, Kate Diaz, Joe Sena, Fur Coats for Sportsmen, and Cody Cummings put forth thumping energy into the Oasis crowd as they watched intently.

Opener Tim Koda started the show by jamming out some smooth and free flowing acoustic guitar accompanied by his brother on electric.

"I'm kind of just getting started again with my music, that's the phase I'm at right now," Koda said. "I'm playing a lot of different music that I wasn't last year and I'm currently in a band called Sunshine and the Feel Good Nation."

It seemed that Koda could really start to move the crowd to transition them into the unique acts that were still to come. "Here at the Oasis it was really nice," Koda said. "The sound was good, attentive audience, and it was really easy to lose ourselves in it. I mostly play with my band now, but I save the real personal songs for shows like this that I write myself."

The night was then followed by some unexpected hard rockers Shades of Grey, as the night had been pinned as an "acoustic night." Although that didn't mean the crowd wasn't interested into what Shades of Grey had in store for them and it proved to be some wicked guitar, drum, bass and female vocals from some very young talented musicians.

Even younger 14 year old singer/songwriter Kate Diaz took the stage after. Impressing the crowd with beautiful melodies and harmonies, Diaz paved the night for Joe Sena, Fur Coats for Sportsmen, and Cody Cummings.

The final acts were polished off with toe tapping acoustic/lyrical styling of Joe Sena, and the rock and roll stylings of Fur Coats for Sportmen and Cody Cummings.

The Oasis Youth Center proves to be a venue growing in popularity for bands trying to get their foot into the Chicagoland music scene and looks as though it will continue to bring in crowds looking to see an incredibly wide variety of music.
