Board Briefs: Votes Coming on Final Teacher's Contract Document, RTI Coordinator
Here's a look at items that are expected to be on the Grayslake District 46 Board agenda in March.
The Grayslake District 46 Board hopes to approve the finalized 2012-14 teacher's contract at its next meeting.
The final document wasn't ready for the board's Feb. 20 meeting.
"It's not finished yet," said Board President Ray Millington. "It should be done by the next meeting."
The board voted unanimously Feb. 6 to approve the tentative agreement between the district and the teacher's union. Board Secretary Sue Facklam noted at that meeting that when the board votes on the final document, the contents will not change.
Curriculum/Response to Intervention Coordinator
Also at the next meeting, the board may vote on whether to hire a coordinator for curriculum and Response to Intervention.
Superintendent Ellen Correll explained that the district needs someone to handle a variety of tasks, including looking at assessments, looking at writing standards in kindergarten through eighth grade, examining social studies and coordinating communication amongst the buildings so there is consistency.
"This is a position I feel very strongly that you need to have in the district," said Correll. "I would ask the board to consider it. It is in our budget."

"It is in our budget." Is this the same budget that is showing millions of dollars of red ink? Why on earth would they add administrative headcount at this point in time? I can't believe the Superintendent would actually propose this while simultaneously proposing widespread cuts across the rest of the district.

It says "look at writing standards", as well as "examine social studies". Where do you find setting the curriculum in that sentence? Oh I know, we need to pay the teachers more and it will all be ok. That's your ubiquitous answer; thought I'd save you the typing.

It depends on the subject, Sandra, as to whether the superintendent or another administrator coordinates communication between the buildings. If it's something having to do with special education, then the director of special ed should be responsible. If it's RTI, then the RTI person (whoever that may be) should be responsible. CEOs delegate as well. If one is a good leader and has good people reporting to him or her, then communication shouldn't be a problem. D46 is not so big that communication coordination has to be by one special person. I believe that's part of the directors' job.

Sandra, I'm guessing my comments go right over your head. Not all of my posts are opinions; they are facts. I know it's hard for you to tell the difference. Considering how little you really know, I suppose I should expect you not to know there are other ways to work for a district without being an actual employee of the district. Again, I really don't expect you to understand that. Just a word here, Sandy- I'd also wager I'm a hell of a lot safer with kids than you are.
