Members of the Libertyville High School volleyball team were headed to Woodstock for a tournament when their bus crashed into a pick up truck on Route 83 in Grayslake this morning.

"The bus was hit and flipped on its side," said Sgt. Scott Heimos of the Grayslake Police Department.

The accident occured at 7:41 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Route 83 and Washington Street in Grayslake. The girls were all transported to either Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville or Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Grayslake, Heimos said.

"None of the injuries were life threatening," he said. "We had eight fire departments on hand to assist with transports."

Heimos said the crash is still under investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming. Neither driver was injured.

"There were no red light violations," Heimos said. "Both had a green light. Someone turned left in front of the other."

Thank Heaven none of the injuries was life-threatening. I know the community's thoughts and prayers will be with the Libertyville girls' volleyball team, coaching staff and family members, who are people I can say firsthand are a wonderful group.

I wish all of you a speedy recovery and that all of you are okay. I also hope the community reaches out and gives all these girls a ton of support following this horrible event.

Wishing the Libertyville Girls a speedy recovery. It sounds like they were well taken care of by our public servents once again. Hats off to The Grayslake Fire department and the surrounding communities that helped out.

Luckily the physical injuries were minor, although emotional ones could linger. Without a doubt this was a very scary incident! Was the driver of the bus investigated to see if he/she was impaired in any way?
