Former Frederick PTO Treasurer Pleads Not Guilty to Theft
Elizabeth Bako plead not guilty at her arraignment Wednesday.
At an arraignment hearing in Lake County court Wednesday, former Frederick School PTO treasurer Elizabeth Bako pleaded not guilty to felony theft, according to the Daily Herald.
Bako, 41, of Woodland Drive, Grayslake, was indicted Nov. 21.
Bako is charged with two counts of felony theft. One count is for theft of $10,000 to $100,000. The second count is for theft of $500 to $10,000, according to the Lake County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.
Bako is accused of stealing from the Frederick School PTO between April 2011 and May 2012, while she was serving as treasurer.
Bako is also charged with using a debit card with intent to fraud, reports the Daily Herald.
At the hearing, Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti said Bako was not permitted to have contact with PTO members or the District 46 School Board, nor is she allowed on Frederick School property aside from attending a holiday concert this month, reported the Daily Herald.
A tentative trial date has been set for March 18, with both sides due back in court on Feb. 19, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Bako remains free on $2,500 bond.

This makes me really sad! As a parent feel like if this is true that this women stole from our whole community! The PTO is a wonderful source of fundraising for the kids in our schools. It would be a shame that one person could give a bad name to a great organization that has provided teachers and students with funds to do things they otherwise could not. What a shame “One bad apple spoils the bunch”. Thank you to all those people that are HONEST volunteers! We appreciate all you do for our community!

Thru this whole ordeal she had a chance to not let it go this far by plain proof. She was a PTO President/Treasurer combined for yrs, she knows how it all works/CYA’s. Now she has wasted taxpayer $$. Of course, feel sry for her kids, but as a parent you lead by example, it is your job to show good choices, not the village. So in all, if her kids are getting backlash, I feel awful for them, but she shld be sick about it, its her responsibility & shld of thought about them, if found guilty. Don’t understand where is her proof, recover whereabouts, not only hurting hers, but all the Fred kids. I have to commend Katie R, for doing an exceptional job to work with Fred and police to at least try for a recovery effort and make other efforts to restore some. I want to thank all the Fred PTO past and present, your jobs are not easy and never unnoticed. I pray this is a mistake but by now, shouldn’t it have been an easy papertrail… Going around town saying you have been “set up", threats to sue people, harassing PTO mbrs, & "who your real friends are" (if a friend, would think hard 2 support if guilty) does not help a case of innocence, focus your energy/time on getting this resolved/finding it, giving back if you took it, give it back to our kids. Could've been prevented & 1 less thing D46 parents/kids need to deal with. Come on Ms Bako, don’t waste taxpayers dollars, resolve this now b4 more court costs & return it, you are the key to resolving this, move on it!

I don't know much about Elizabeth Bako, but as a parent of children in the school district you have prompted me to seek more information about this women seeing you state she has been part of the PTO for years. What I did find on this very site was interesting.
ON May 20th, 2011 while speaking about school board issues she blogged: "Not that it is any of your business, but what I teach my children is that sometimes even good people make mistakes or errors in judgement. When this happens, those people have to pay the price or suffer the consequence of their actions. I tell them to listen to their consicnce and they will most likely make the right choices. I tell them to think of others, don't be mean, selfish or hurtful. Does that help?"
If she is indeed guilty this is pretty interesting, maybe she should take her own words to heart and like you said don't waste taxpayer’s dollars and resolve this! It’s hard get indictment on such charges ,as far as I know without pretty good evidence. Interestingly she posted this while she was alleging dipping her hands in the Fredrick PTO cookie jar.

Editor's Note: To be fair and ensure the information Mari refers to is correct, I have verified the comment was made by Elizabeth "Lisa" Bako, but it was from an article posted May 18, 2011, not May 20.

I will be interested to learn how this plays out on Monday.
I wonder if district 46 board member and secretary Gift Card Sue Facklam will be in court supporting her old pal and supporter Elizabeth "Lisa" Bako....

I thought it was tomorrow, either which way, yes please report. Yes wonder if the board members are in support but then again I think some still do espec if they are having lunch with her. The bottom line, either show the proof and admit fault to the public/Fred students/community and PAY EVERY CENT OF IT BACK, or go to the clink and get used to wearing bright orange. Seems pretty simple instead of her saying she is NOT GUILTY with no evidence to prove it and if she does, tell the court and SHOW FREDERICK THE MONEY!

Judge set trial date of March 13. I'm confused, since the trial had been previously set for March 18. Maybe someone at the Patch can confirm.
