Grayslake Colts Finish Season as Champions
Grayslake Colts Big 10 take Mundelein Stallions 18 to 6 in the Nov. 11 Super Bowl game.
On Nov. 11, the Grayslake Colts took on the Mundelein Stallions for the TCYFL Class AA Big 10 Heavyweight Championship.
The game was held at Barrington High School in less than ideal weather conditions, but the heavy rains and high winds could not keep the teams and their fans from enjoying the game, which ended with the Colts outlasting the Stallions 18-6.
The Colts lead 12-0 after the first quarter on a pair of rushing touchdowns. The Stallions scored late in the second quarter on a long touchdown run, making the score at halftime 12-6.
The Colts opened the second half with a 62 yard touchdown on their first possession, making the game 18-6. That would be the last score of the game as both defenses shut down the offenses the rest of the game.
The Colts had finished the regular season with an 8-1 record, winning their conference title and entering the playoffs as the #1 seed. With the championship victory they finished 11-1 overall.
“What a way for our kids to go out!” said Head Coach Ed Pietschmann, referring to the 17 players that will be headed to high school next year.
The heavyweights were one of two Colts teams to make it to their championship games. The Big 10 Bantams played earlier in the day at Carmel High School, unfortunately losing to the Elgin Bears 31-18.
