“This is our really fun event of the year,” said Tracy Putkonen of the Grayslake Community Park District. “It’s nice to see the entire community come together. We have entire neighborhoods meet for the fireworks.”
With an expected 6,000 people on the Central Park grounds, visitors can park at Grayslake Central High School or the Grayslake Middle School.
Parking lots at the skate park and the Grayslake Library will also be open, however visitors in those lots will have to wait until the area is cleared following the fireworks presentation before returning to their vehicles.
Putkonen said the Aquatic Center parking lot is for Aquatic Center patrons only, not for festival visitors.
The playground, splash pad, shelter and pavilion and disc golf holes 6 through 9 will be closed Saturday for the festival.
The event is free and open to the public. The 15th annual Family Picnic and Fireworks is organized by the Grayslake Community Park District, Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Grayslake.
