Some of the candidates above will not appear on the ballot because they decided not to run and submitted the necessary paper work to remove themselves from the ballot.

Can anyone explain why Avon Township and its associated expenses even exist? The services displayed on their website are mostly support activities and in many cases are duplicated at the county level. Is Avon just another one of the 4,000 taxing bodies in Illinois (no state has more) that no one really knows why they exist?

These salaries do not include pension costs and other benefits like health insurance:
Assessor: $85,248
Highway Commissioner: $71,361
Supervisor: $71,361
Clerk: $25,887
Trustee (each): $2,926

Just received a telemarketing call from someone at Avon Independent, dinnertime on Good Friday.

When I requested to be removed from their call list to avoid future unwanted bothersome telephone calls, I was told he would do his best, not very reassuring….

It prompted me to conduct some research on what it is that Avon Independent candidates feel they can do for me. I read some pretty interesting campaign promises. Makes one wonder how these candidates feel they can do anything to improve the lives of Avon Township voter’s, but can only do their best to ensure they don’t inject themselves into our personal family time.

As an early voter, I can gladly say I didn’t vote Avon Independent, I wouldn't suggest anyone else do either....

Bob,

As I mentioned in another thread, I’m not here to debate this, nor am I here attempting to derail a campaign.

But if you choose to pull punches, then lets.

I’m just a guy whose work and travel schedule make me appreciate my free time at home, thus the reason why I absolutely despise people like you who feel they have the right to inject themselves into my home life with unwanted, bothersome telemarketing calls, simply because political solicitation calls are exempt from the national do not call registry. There are only two simple options US citizens have to protect themselves from people the likes of you; 1. Never register to vote. 2. Rescind one’s right to vote.

Terrible options, wouldn’t you agree?

Yes, when I received your call Friday evening, I was upset enough to login to the patch, type a 3 minute letter, copy it and post it.

You, by your own admission clearly represent a candidate and a party currently running in the upcoming election, and are responsible for not only the call I received, but it’s safe to assume calls to many other constituents living in Avon Township.

Let’s be honest here Bob, you and your party have made a tactical error and now you’re in full damage control mode.

Let’s recap your actions:

1. Your party made an error in judgment with your calls.
2. Candidate Douglas Raul Williams typed a public apology for disturbing us.
3. You attacked me by suggesting I was lying.
4. You made an excuse.
5. You attempted to create a conspiracy theory by trying to shift blame towards a candidate in the opposing party.
6. You concocted an excuse for Douglas Raul William’s apology, claiming he was accepting blame for something the party really didn’t do, while again calling me a liar.
7. Now you’re attempting to shift attention away from your tactical error by attacking a candidate from the opposing party.

Your parties initial actions, combined with your actions listed above have only reaffirmed my decision, and I can again say I am happy I did not vote for any of the Avon Independent candidates.

In my previous response to you, I actually wished your party good luck in the upcoming election. But, seeing as you are representative of the types of individuals running in that party, I can only hope other voters see you for what you really are, and like I; vote against each of your candidates.

I have answers for both Tom and GL Resident.
First - Tom - I know you didn't actually ask a question, but you responded to GL, which led me to read your entire answer, and after that, well Mr or Mrs. GL Resident hit it out of the park. When your candidates are contradicting their principles by lowering everyones assessed values to combat the fact that the market is weak, they are also essentially lowering everyones home values. Which seems to be the primary function of government after all isn't it? Making you work so much harder for less, so someone else can have more? Not to mention you clearly prove my point, when asked by the survey - What is the biggest challenge the township faces and what should be done to address it?
"I think the biggest challenge the Township faces is relevancy." - Candidate Chris Ditton.
GL Resident - We need local governments so the brains in school that wanted to be elected class president, now are captains of a hypothetical tree house club in which they are someone important who is here to help the local townspeople. We don't need these thieves, look at how much money they're raking in every year in taxes! click here http://www.avontownship.us/media/6838/FY12%20Budget%20Worksheet_Town%20FINAL.pdf -time to hold a vote to throw them all out.

Chris Ditton knows the Smoke and Mirrors games all too well. McNoodler...your assessment of the Assessor Ditton is off the mark just a bit. According to Lake County Chief Assessor Martin Paulson, Ditton ignored the 2012 Board of Review reductions given to Avon homeowners, then elevated yes elevated those assessments in 2012 only to a make political move and reduced the inflated assessment to say he reduced your "taxes".

To think I went to engineering school for 4 years and had to carve my way up the ladder to get close to some of those salaries. I went into the wrong profession. Must be nice having all that money, insurance, and pension just for spending our tax dollars.
