Police: Suspected Gang Members Attack Zion Man with Wooden Table Legs
Police charge two men with aggravated battery after attack at Grayslake apartment complex.
Grayslake police charged two suspected gang members with aggravated battery after a Zion man was attacked with wooden table legs in a Grayslake apartment complex Nov. 16.
Ricky R. Clay, 25, 431 Filweber, Antioch, and Kortillous A. Wilson, 17, 201 Woodland Dr., Round Lake Beach, are being held on $50,000 bonds at the Lake County Jail after the incident, which occurred at 8:38 p.m. at 1807 Country Drive.
Grayslake police Cmdr. Matt McCutcheon said there was a party at the Grayslake apartment when the violence broke out. The police responded to a caller who reported hearing glass breaking and yelling at the apartment.
When police officers arrived, they saw several people running from the apartment. A third suspect escaped on foot. Lake County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to assist and searched the area with two police K-9 units but did not find the suspect.
Police said witnesses told officers that Clay, Wilson and the third suspect attacked a 23-year-old male from Zion with a broken, wooden table leg while shouting gang slogans.
"There is a gang element, but we don't know if that was the motive," McCutcheon said. "It is unclear if there is an affiliation of the victim. Some previous conflict sparked this attack."
The offenders have not been cooperative in discussing the incident, McCutcheon added.
Police said the Zion man defended himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed Clay. Both Clay and Wilson were transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and treated. Wilson was treated for a head injury. They were abusive and physically uncooperative with hospital staff, according to the police report. They were released to the custody of Grayslake officers.
Officers are continuing to work to identify the third offender.

I'm reading the headline and wondering, was he attacked with table legs or did the Zion man have table legs? I know some amputees don't have a lot of money, but using table legs? Somebody needs a new headline writer.
