Village Approves $2.9 Million Levy with No Increase

Village gives taxpayers a break by freezing tax levy at current level.

The Grayslake Village Board officially approved the 2012 tax levy at Tuesday's meeting.

The $2.95 million levy is equal to the amount the village received this year from the 2011 levy, meaning there is no increase for taxpayers. The small tax break is the result of the village being debt-free and having a balanced budget, said officials.

The 2012 levy will result in property tax receipts for the village in 2013. The village portion of the tax bill is just over 4 percent. Since 1987, the village’s tax rate has declined more than 46 percent.

Board briefs

In other board action, trustees authorized the execution of a pipeline relocation agreement between the village and West Shore Pipeline in conjunction with the Atkinson Road extension project.

Prior to the start of the project, a 16-inch pipeline crossing Route 120 and Atkinson Road will be relocated. About 89 percent of the pipeline to be relocated is located in easements held by West Shore, with the balance located in the right-of-way for Route 120.

West Shore is entitled to reimbursement for the cost of relocating the portion of the pipeline within its easements. The relocation is estimated to cost $1.42 million, of which the village's share is about $1.26 million. Construction is expected to begin next spring.

Trustees also approved $26,000 for the cost of contracting with Boller Construction for the repair and maintenance of the chlorinating system at the pump station/water reservoir.

Really? Are you not getting it?

School tax levy is up, library is up, village is flat and a few others are up. Take the percentages and apply it to your property value (chances are it has gone down).

Also Ms. not understand, your 2012/2013 tax bill has not been sent yet. Expect it in your mailbox sometime in Feb. Today, you are paying on last years levy & valuation.

GL Village president making $250,000 per year, Avon township, park district, forest preserve, library, schools all requesting and approving maximum tax increase requests, guaranteed teacher, police and fire pensions that have to be subsidized by the taxpayer, businesses and homeowners leaving GL because people do not have any spending money left. Not hard to figure.

GL Resident: I believe you mean to refer the full-time village manager, not the mayor (president) which is a part-time position. http://grayslake.patch.com/articles/ellis-salary-largest-of-village-managers-throughout-illinois

marilyn, There is a levy presentation at Grayslake Middle School, 440 N. Barron Blvd., Grayslake, IL at 6:30 pm to discuss the D46 levy. They, along with D127 (meeting next week) are the biggest portion of your property taxes.
