Pat Carey wins election to Lake County Board District 6 over Jeff Werfel.

Update 9:30 p.m.:

Democrat Pat Carey defeated Grayslake trustee Jeff Werfel for the Lake County Board District 6. Carey received 7,244 votes, or 57.82%, compared to Werfel's 5,285 votes, or 42.18%. The Lake County Clerk's office reported results, including early voting and vote by mail ballots, are in from 26 of 26 precincts.

Carey watched election results come in with fellow Democrat Melinda Bush at the Vine in Grayslake, which was packed with supporters.

"So far so good," said Carey when she was ahead of Jeff Werfel with just three precincts left to be counted.

Update 7:45 p.m:

Pat Carey is off to a strong start in the race for Lake County Board District 6. As of 7:45 p.m., with 18 out of 26 precincts counted, Carey had 3,436 votes, or 56.78%, to Jeff Werfel's 2,615 votes, or 43.22%. 

Grayslake trustee Jeff Werfel attended the Grayslake Village Board meeting on Tuesday. He said he planned to go home and watch results with his family.

"I made a promise to myself to run a good campaign and be happy with whatever the results were. It's up to the voters now."

Background

Democrat Pat Carey, of Grayslake, has served Lake County Board District 11 since 2008 and is also a forest preserve commissioner. She was mayor of Grayslake from 1993 to 2001 and served as a Grayslake village trustee from 1989 to 1993.

Carey has worked in corporate technology management for 20 years and in municipal economic development and marketing for two years. She holds a degree in psychology from Loyola University. She is married with two sons.

Republican Jeff Werfel, of Grayslake, has been a Grayslake village trustee since 2003. He is a legislative aide/community outreach manager for State Rep. Sandy Cole r-62nd, of Grayslake.

Werfel possesses a degree in government from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and a Masters in Marketing & Strategic Management from Loyola University.

Werfel is married with two children.
