New data released this week shows Chicago area home prices fell 0.8 percent in February.
In February, Chicago-area home prices dropped for the sixth straight month according to new data released this week by S&P/Case-Shiller. The data reflects single-family home prices fell 0.8 percent in February compared with January. However, Chicago area home sales prices were up 5.1 percent compared with Feb. 2012, which is the second smallest year-to-year increase after New York in a 20-city index provided by S&P/Case-Shiller, reported Crain's Chicago Business. “Home prices continue to show solid increases across all 20 cities,” said David M. Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices, in a statement. “The 10- and 20-city composites recorded their highest annual growth rates since May 2006.” Local prices are down …

It's called the "cart-to-car" service, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you want the help or not, your bagger is expected to follow you and your cart out to your vehicle. The service is mandatory, though Jewel-Osco denies it has anyting to do with keeping track of shopping carts, according to Coupons in the News. The Marketplace Fairness Act would give states the ability to collect online sales taxes.
The Senate cleared the way this week for the passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act, which requires businesses with more than $1 million in Internet sales to pay sales taxes to the state where the buyer resides, Slate reported. While a 1992 Supreme Court decision allows for taxing online sales, states don’t collect online sales tax unless the buyer voluntarily sends it. In 2012, states collectively lost an estimated $23.3 billion in sales tax revenue due to online sales according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the Huffington Post reported. An increase in the Motor Fuel Tax or a new sales tax are proposed to help fund road improvements.
Illinois drivers are running on empty as they wait for improvements to traffic congestion. More funding for planned road improvements is needed, according to the Lake County Transportation Alliance (LCTA). The LCTA partnered with the Transportation for Illinois Coalition to bring the issue to community leaders. According to their information: Based on the current trajectory, Illinois will have around 5000 miles of road in a state of bad repair by FY 2018. The number in FY 1998 was around 2000 miles. Basically, roads are bad, and getting worse.
