Prairie Crossing Charter School Named National Blue Ribbon School

The school was one of just 21 in Illinois to receive the honor this year.

Prairie Crossing Charter School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.

PCCS was one of 286 schools nationwide—and one of 21 in Illinois—to receive the honor in 2013.

"Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers," U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said in a press release. "National Blue Ribbon Schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education.”

Prairie Crossing officials released this statement about the honor:

"Prairie Crossing Charter School is honored to have received this distinguished award. In 2012, PCCS was awarded the National Green Ribbon Award, which honors schools which exercise a 'comprehensive approach to creating ‘green’ environments through reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring a high-quality environmental and outdoor education to prepare students with the 21stcentury skills and sustainability concepts needed in the growing global economy.'

"This is a great accomplishment for the PCCS community—the National Blue Ribbon award is shared with our parents, our students and our staff. Without the commitment and dedication of each—we could never have achieved such an award. Partnering with our parents and our focus on academic rigor helps PCCS remain the premier choice for public education in Lake County."
