Culver's of Grayslake to host fundraiser for local 13-year-old with brain cancer
As a local 13-year-old battles brain cancer at Lutheran General Hospital, one Grayslake business is doing something to help his family to offset the mounting medical bills.
Joey Cambio is an eighth-grader at Grayslake Middle School. When he received his cancer diagnosis this winter, his best friends approached Culver’s of Grayslake owner Chris Searles to help support his battle. Joey has a Germinoma brain tumor and is currently undergoing chemotherapy every three weeks at Lutheran General Hospital.
The support of his family and friends have kept his spirits high, and Culver’s of Grayslake hopes to grow that support by holding a Night of Giving for Joey on Thursday, March 20. From 5-8 p.m. at its location at 1239 Illinois 83, Village Trustees, Grayslake Fire and Police Departments and Joey’s Boy Scout Troop will all be in attendance to visit and serve guests dinner. The Grayslake community is gearing up to join together, and Culver’s will be donating 25 percent of the entire day’s sales toward medical expenses.

“Joey is a wonderful kid who is actively involved in our community,” says Culver’s of Grayslake owner Chris Searles. “When we heard of his story, we knew that we had to help somehow.”
Joey, a regular guest at Culver’s of Grayslake, has created a special Flavor of the Day for his fundraiser event, and the restaurant will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from those custard purchases.
