PRAIRIE CROSSING CHARTER SCHOOL RECEIVES NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON AWARD

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has recognized Prairie Crossing Charter School, in Grayslake, as one of 21 schools in Illinois to be named a National Blue Ribbon School. The distinction is based on overall academic excellence and progress in improving student academic achievement. The public charter school is one of 286 schools bestowed the honor across the U.S.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of achievement.

“Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers,” said Secretary Duncan. “National Blue Ribbon schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education.”

Prairie Crossing Charter School is honored to have received this distinguished award. In 2012, PCCS was awarded the National Green Ribbon Award, which honors schools which exercise a “comprehensive approach to creating ‘green’ environments through reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring a high-quality environmental and outdoor education to prepare students with the 21st century skills and sustainability concepts needed in the growing global economy.”

“This is a great accomplishment for the PCCS community,” states Geoff Deigan, Executive Director of PCCS.  “The National Blue Ribbon award is shared with our parents, our students and our staff. Without the commitment and dedication of each – we could never have achieved such an award. Partnering with our parents and our focus on academic rigor helps PCCS remain the premier choice for public education in Lake County.”
