Sen. Bush and AG Madigan host foreclosure prevention workshop Saturday

GRAYSLAKE—Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) will host a foreclosure prevention workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 2 at Lake County High Schools Technology Campus , 19525 W. Washington St., Grayslake. 

“There is no doubt that the recession has impacted all of us and although we hope that the worst is over, many people are still feeling its effects,” Senator Bush said.  “Attorney General Lisa Madigan and I are working to bring homeowners and lenders together to prevent foreclosure and possibly lower homeowners’ monthly payments.”

The Attorney General’s Office provides a variety of services to help homeowners including information on homeowner’s legal rights, credit counseling and avoiding scam artists. In addition, one-on-one housing counseling with HUD-certified counselors will be provided during the workshop.

“Every year, thousands of homeowners struggling to stay in their homes come to my office for help. Last year alone, we assisted more than 5,000 consumers who filed complaints with my office,” Madigan said. “We host these events so that the experienced housing counselors in my office can work with homeowners personally, free of charge, and help them determine their best path forward.”

Homeowners interested in attending the event should bring the following documentation in order for the Attorney General’s Office to best serve them:

• Mortgage Statement

• 2011 & 2012 W-2 & tax return with all schedules

• Copy of rental agreement, if necessary

• 2 months of recent paystubs

• Budget of household expenses

• Documentation of other income

• 2 months of recent bank statements

• Recent utility bill

• Profit/Loss, if self-employed (last 6 months)
