A Mundelein police officer and a U.S. Army First Sergeant have partnered together to organize a golf tournament to benefit Wounded Warrior Project. The Warrior Cup Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Friday September 27, 2013 at Brae Loch Golf Club in Grayslake. The 18 hole, shot gun style tournament will begin with tee-offs at noon, followed by dinner and a silent auction later that afternoon and evening. The Warrior Cup is a Wounded Warrior approved event with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Event Directors for the tournament, former U.S. Army Officer and current Mundelein Police Officer Brian Wainscott and U.S. Army First Sergeant David Gorgoglione, are no strangers to the sacrifices our U.S. military service men and women make on a daily basis. Gorgoglione is currently assigned to the 814th Military Police Company located in Arlington Heights, Illinois and has more than 22 years in the service, including four overseas deployments. He has several friends who were wounded during the current War on Terror and has witnessed firsthand the physical and emotional injuries that can be sustained during combat. Wainscott served in the U.S. Army from 1997-2001 and has several friends still in the service. His wife, Kathleen, served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, spending several months away from her family, including her daughter, who was four years old at the time.
When Gorgoglione was assigned to Arlington Heights in late 2012, he and his wife Annette formed the Raising Up Our Heroes organization, sponsored by Kiski Valley Veterans and Patriots Association, a 501(c)3 organization, to raise awareness and provide financial support for veterans returning from deployments overseas. Their first Illinois fundraising event, Little Sweetheart Valentine’s Dance and Silent Auction, was held in Wheeling, Illinois in February, 2013. The Warrior Cup is the second fundraiser in Illinois, and the organizers are providing another opportunity for the residents of the state to give support to U.S. war heroes.

There are several options to get involved in the Warrior Cup event. For those interested in participating in the golf tournament, tickets are $85 and include green fees, cart rental, dinner, participation in the silent auction, and a $5 gift card to Brae Loch’s gift shop. Spectator tickets are also available for $35 and provide viewing access of the tournament, dinner, and participation in the silent auction. Participant and spectator tickets can be purchased on the Raising Up Our Heroes website. Donations are also being accepted for the Silent Auction.
