Yingling Launches Cell Phone Drive for Domestic Violence Victims

HAINESVILLE, Ill. – In an effort to support victims of domestic violence, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, announced that he will host a month-long cell phone drive for the Verizon Wireless HopeLine Program. Yingling will collect used cell phones at locations throughout his district during the month of October, which will be distributed to participating domestic violence organizations nationwide.

“Domestic violence is a devastating epidemic that continues to be problematic in communities, but hardly receives the proper attention it deserves,” Yingling said. “I’m happy to be working with Verizon Wireless and their HopeLine Program that connects survivors of domestic violence to vital resources and funds organizations nationwide. This program also serves to protect the environment, keeping electronics out of landfills by recycling old phones.”

Out-of-use cell phones and accessories in any condition from any wireless provider can be dropped off at the following locations:

“Nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than three million children in the United States are affected by domestic violence,” Yingling said. “In addition to providing victims with safer means of communication, I hope this drive will help to raise awareness and bring attention to this important issue.
