12-Year-Old Hopes Her Mission is in the Bag

Abby Goldberg feels confident about delivering 154,000 signatures to Governor Pat Quinn to veto a bill to ban plastic bag bans in Illinois.

The hard part for 12-year-old Abby Goldberg of Grayslake is over. Now, all she has to do is wait.

"I really feel great because all the hard work we've done has really paid off," Goldberg said. "There are so many people out there who really believe in what I'm doing."

The student, who began this project as part of her 7th grade culminating project said Governor Quinn accepted the petitions, however gave no indication whether he would veto the bill or not.

However, Goldberg's camp feel confident.

"I feel all systems are a go on this veto, but I'm not naive to know that things change, especially in politics," said Ben Zolno of New Message Media who is helping Goldberg.

"At the end of the day it is not about plastics at all," Zolno said. "It is about the government telling small towns what to do."
