Dozens turned out for Tuesday's vigil near Campbell Airport. Family and friends lit candles, left flowers and shared memories of Joey, a 2011 graduate of Grayslake Central High School who worked at Anthony Buick GMC in Gurnee.

At Tuesday's memorial, mourners gathered in a circle, held hands and recited the Lord's Prayer. A bagpipe recording of "Amazing Grace" floated through the frigid air.

"Joey had beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile. He was my first kiss," said one young woman.

Reminiscing about the laughs they had in high school and hanging out, friends said Joey was a great guitar player who was popular with the girls and had a wonderful sense of humor.
