A flood advisory is in effect for Lake County through 10 a.m. this morning.
Widespread rainfall of two-thirds of an inch to 1 1/3 inches on Friday in addition to melting snowfall resulted in significant runoff into area streams and rivers.
The Des Plaines River was measured at 6.4 feet as of 1:30 a.m. Saturday and is expected to rise more and could reach the flood stage of 7 feet. In addition, the east branch of the DuPage River in Bolingbrook was at 18 feet as of 2 a.m. and like to rise to over 19 feet this morning.
"Snow and ice is resulting in poor drainage and significant ponding of water in some low-lying areas," according to the National Weather Service.
Motorists are advised not to drive through areas where water covers the roadway. A flood advisory is also in effect for Cook, DuPage, Will, Kendall, Kane and Grundy counties as well as Lake County in Indiana.
