Grayslake's Aquatic Center Wins Five Star Award

The Starfish Aquatics Institute (SAI) awarded the Esper A. Petersen Foundation Family Aquatic Center, operated by the Village of Grayslake, their prestigious Five Star Award following an unannounced performance audit of the lifeguards and management staff.

“Very few aquatic facilities qualify to receive this honor,” stated Leslie Donavan, President of SAI. “It represents a tremendous commitment to safety and training, and exceptional performance by the lifeguard staff on duty at the time.”

“The Village of Grayslake is proud to offer the customers of the Esper A. Petersen Foundation Family Aquatic Center a Five Star facility,” said Mayor Rhett Taylor. “Safety is by far the most important service we provide to the many families that visit our facility each summer.”

The local lifeguards who contributed to the achievement of the Five Star Award include Megan Mertins, Bryan Clancy, Katherine Wiacek, Ellyn Ahlemeyer, Caleb Munk, and Kevin Peloza. The managers on duty during the safety audit were General Manager Shayna Mortensen and Pool Managers Kelly Jay and Amy Drangines.

SAI is one of the largest lifeguard, swim instructor and pool operator certifying agencies in the United States.

“We are very proud to have the Esper A. Petersen Foundation Family Aquatic Center as a member of the SAI family and that they have chosen to train their staff using our programs,” said Donavan. “We also commend them for participating in the StarReview audit program and believe our focus on professionalism and accountability gives our providers the opportunity to lead the industry in effective and safe programming.”

The Esper A. Petersen Foundation Family Aquatic Center is located at 250 Library Lane in Grayslake. The 2013 summer season runs from May 25 through Labor Day weekend. For more information, please visit www.swimgrayslake.com.
