Happy Veterans Day, Grayslake!

What does Veterans Day mean to you?

Today, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day—the day we honor all of the men and women who have served our country.

The day was originally known as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I. It was officially declared a legal holiday on May 13, 1938, according to the Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs. After World War II, the day was renamed to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars.

To honor veterans, many national chains are offering special treats on Nov. 11. Veterans, active military personnel and their spouses, for example, can snag a free tall brewed coffee at Starbucks. Veterans and active military can also receive a stack of all-you-can-eat pancakes at Denny's from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to USA Today.

Are you a veteran or is there one in your life? We'd like to hear what Veterans Day means to you. Post a comment below or create your own blog post here.
