The Lake County University of Illinois Extension Unit is joining other units throughout the state in celebrating 100 years of serving Illinois communities.

To document the Lake County history of the extension units, the Lake County Extension is collecting stories, photographs and other information through next spring that will show how the units had an important role in the history of Lake County from the early days of an agricultural economy to modern day living.

The Grayslake Historical Society and Museum located in the Grayslake Heritage Center, 164 Hawley St., can assist in this effort. Many Lake County Extension Units' scrapbooks, documents and other information are available for public inspection, study and review from the Grayslake Historical Society's collection of artifacts either on display in the museum or available from the archivist in the museum's archives.

"We would like to hear how University of Illinois Extension has been an important part of your life, family, or community," said James Reaves, Extension director in Lake County, in an article this fall in the Lake County News-Sun.

Reaves said he the Extension Office wants to hear about residents' connections with the organization, according to the News-Sun.

If you'd like to share a story as part of this celebration, contact the Lake County Extension Office at (847) 223-8627.

Hours at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and during various downtown Grayslake events.
