Join Patch in Helping Boris the Bobcat

RSVP to attend this free event to learn more about this amazing creature at the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest.

Did you know the Bobcat is found in 99 of the 102 counties in Illinois?

Better yet, did you know Lake County residents can visit this amazing animal that can run up to 40 mph right at the Wildlife Discovery Center (WDC) at Elawa Farm in ?

has been a resident of the WDC for just about two years, and he is in need of an addition to his existing cage.

Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch has joined forces with the Wildlife Discovery Center as part of its "Ask the Expert" program to raise some money toward building that addition while giving Lake County residents a chance to meet Boris.

A special free presentation by Curator Rob Carmichael will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the WDC, 1401 Middlefork Drive. Carmichael will provide some interesting details about Boris while inside his cage, demonstrate the training Boris receives to assist his care and then participate in a question-answer session afterward.

Families are encouraged to attend to see this Illinois wonder up close. To RSVP for the event, send an email to Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch editor at james.powers@patch.com.

The goal is $25,000. I'm not sure where they are at this point, but Rob can fill us in on the 27th.

We do but it's not really intended for public viewing although everyone is welcome to watch when we are out there. I'll talk to staff to see if we can have some posted days/times that we do this.

The total cost to build the cage extension and the perimeter safety fence (a USDA requirement for licensed exhibitors) is right around $20,000. Folks can make a tax deductible donation by making checks payable to: Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation and earmark the check "WDC-Boris Fund" and mail to: Attn: Rob Carmichael, Wildlife Discovery Center at Elawa Farm, 1401 Middlefork Drive, Lake Forest, IL 60045 Many thanks

Our goal was indeed $25,000 and we have $5000 raised so far. There are going to be some matching funds but the more we can get, the better the environment we can provide this amazing wild cat!

Thanks for the clarification, Rob!
