Lake County residents concerned about growing heroin abuse in the area are encouraged to attend a meeting Wednesday night to discuss the problem.
The meeting is being sponsored by Linking Efforts Against Drugs (LEAD) and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. It’s being held from 7 p.m. at the Gorton Community Center, 400 E Illinois Road in Lake Forest.
State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim will give an overview of the growing problem in Lake County and then the audience is invited to ask questions of him, as well as of an ER doctor, professional counselor and recovering young addict from the community.
The issue of heroin abuse made news nationally after the overdose death earlier this month of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Closer to home, last fall a 22-year-old Round Lake man was sentenced to prison time for his role in supplying the heroin that killed his best friend, Timothy McCann, 20, of Libertyville.
