Laremont School's Day At The Races

Students at Laremont School in Gages Lake will have fun with a special "derby" event on at 12:30 p.m. April 17. They also have a fundraiser coming up on April 28.

Students at Laremont School will have their own "“Day at the Races” at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at 17934 W. Gages Lake Road in Gages Lake. This fun event is in preparation for the 23rd Annual Dinner and Auction sponsored by the Laremont Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

The students, who are facing severe to profound cognitive disabilities and/or multiple disabilities, will proceed to the "Laremont Derby" at Lionhill Downs (the Laremont gymnasium). They will be accompanied by their "jockey" and "trainers" to race against one another. There will be trike races, pacer races, assisted walkers, walkers and runners. The students always enjoy these special events that enable them to dress the part and feel like part of the events throughout the year, organizers said.

The annual fundraising "Day at the Races" event sponsored by the PTO will be held Saturday, April 28 at the Concorde Banquets in Kildeer. The event includes a sit-down dinner with an open bar, a live and a silent auction.

The event costs $55 per person with the proceeds going to Laremont students with severe to profound cognitive disabilities and/or multiple disabilities. The funds are used to purchase special equipment needed by the students in their classrooms, for camp scholarships, to name just a few.

The PTO still needs donations for the live and silent auctions. For any questions about the fundraising event, call Anita Gorski at 847-546-7249 or agroski@sedol.us.
