New Group to Help Moms Connect with Other Moms

"Moms need moms," said Director Cheryl Young of Grayslake.

Moms, would you like the opportunity to connect with other local moms and talk about various issues?

There's a new group forming in Lake County that aims to give moms the chance to discuss parenting issues and more.

"Being a mother is the toughest job we're ever going to have, and yet it probably comes with the least amount of training," said Grayslake resident Cheryl Young, director of RECHARGE Moms. "Our teachers are other moms along the way."

Young, a preschool teacher and mom, said it can be challenging for moms with young children to find other women to connect to.

"There's a lot of lonely moms out there that don't feel connected," said Young.

With RECHARGE Moms, those women will get the opportunity to meet twice a month. Young said RECHARGE Moms will meet two Thursdays a month, from 9:15-11:15 a.m., at the Village Church of Gurnee, located at 1319 N. Hunt Club Road.

The sessions will be structured, with specific topics, guest speakers and time to chat. There will also be time for a craft or other activity. Young added that child care will be provided during the two-hour sessions.

"Moms need moms," said Young. "There's nothing like talking to somebody else who's down in the trenches with you. We're trying to give moms a venue where they can get to know other moms."

The first session is slated for Oct. 3 with the topic, "Motherhood - The Toughest Job You'll Ever Love." Other topics include "The Importance of Play" (Oct. 17) and "Speech Development Activities" (Nov. 14).

So far, Young said about 34 women have registered to participate in RECHARGE Moms. The cost to participate is $3 per week. Interested women can register on the RECHARGE Moms website.
