Preparations Underway for Grayslake/Round Lake's Relay for Life

More than 300 participants will take to the track July 21-22 to raise money to help fight cancer.

Organizers, volunteers and participants are working on final preparations for the Grayslake and Round Lake Area's Relay for Life scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22 at the Round Lake High School track.

More than 300 participants on 27 teams have raised more than $46,000 as of late Tuesday. That total is continuing to increase. The money raised will stay within the community and go towards patient services including giving rides to cancer patients.

The Relay for Life starts off on a high-energy note Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies. Cancer survivors will take a lap around the track at 6:30 p.m. A luminaria ceremony will take place at 10:30 p.m.

"It's important for participants  to remember those we've lost to cancer," said Katie Oshinski of the American Cancer Society. "It's a way to remember that cancer takes so much from us, and to remember why we are doing this relay."

Closing ceremonies will be at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22.
