Relay for Life to be Held This Weekend

People of all ages, both supporters and survivors, will descend upon Round Lake Senior High School Saturday for the annual Relay for Life of the Grayslake/Round Lake Areas.

So far, 17 teams with 128 participants have raised $22,431 for the event, which will be held from 6 p.m. July 20 until 6 a.m. July 21. 

Kristina Eddy, income development representative for the American Cancer Society's Lakeshore Division, said this year's goal is $90,000. In 2012, the Relay for Life of Grayslake/Round Lake brought in $76,862, Eddy said.

A number of events are on tap for the Relay, including:

  • 4 p.m. - Survivor reception
  • 5 p.m. - Scavenger hunt
  • 5 p.m. - Silent auction opens and will be held until 7 p.m.
  • 6 p.m. - Opening ceremonies
  • 6:45 p.m. - Survivor, caregiver and team laps
  • 7 p.m. - Mr. Relay contest
  • 8 p.m. - Elvis impersonator, water balloon toss
  • 9:30 p.m. - Frozen t-shirt contest
  • 10:15 p.m. - Luminaria ceremony
  • Midnight: Fight Back ceremony/Birthday party
  • 2 a.m. - Hula Hoop contest
  • 3 a.m. - 80s party
  • 5:30 a.m. - Closing ceremonies
