Save-A-Pet Animal of the Week

Licorice is as sweet as his namesake. Meet him at Grayslake's Save-A-Pet.

Meet Licorice, a 10-year-old affectionate guy, always ready to give kisses.

This handsome dog had a rough start in life. From the age of roughly nine months, he lived in a crate in a dark basement for many years, yet his spirit never gave up on people.

Whenever someone gets ready to take him out, he wags his whole body in anticipation. Once outside, his first order of business is often just trying to climb in your lap. He is definitely a people’s dog.

"Lick," as he is affectionately nicknamed, was just recently diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. This means that he will eventually lose the use of his back legs. However, he is in no pain.

Lick’s only wish has always been to be able to share the couch with someone and be able to give all the love he has accumulated over the years. Lick is just happy being Lick, he doesn’t care about losing the use of his legs.

Lick is defined by his huge heart, not by his physical abilities. He is a candidate as a permanent foster, which means that Save-A-Pet would continue to coordinate the care for his myelopathy.

There are many angels on this earth and all Lick needs is one to be his.

Lick is about 10 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and rabies, heartworm negative and on preventative meds and is micro-chipped.

He needs a home with no other pets.

Hey, wasn’t your New Year’s resolution to find love? We make it easy – just check out him out as well as all his friends at www.saveapetil.org
