Tee Off At Golf Outing For Grayslake Park Foundation

Grayslake Park Foundation will hold its first golf outing July 22 to raise funds to improve Central and Alleghany parks.

The Grayslake Park Foundation will hold its inaugural golf outing fund-raiser July 22 at the Grayslake Golf Course to help improve Alleghany and Central parks.

Kristin Splitt, deputy director of the , said it seemed appropriate to hold it at the Grayslake Golf Course, which is owned by the park district, and also to help keep costs down.

“We decided to do it small and start at our own golf course,” she said.

The outing was opened to 11 foursomes, and all spaces have been filled. But Splitt said there are many opportunities for the community to still get involved.

“If people want to come out and help volunteer at the event, we would appreciate that,” she said. “Businesses also are invited to sponsor.”

Formed in 1998, the Grayslake Park Foundation raises funds to provide recreation opportunities and to enhance park amenities. Splitt said the funds raised will be put toward buying trees and benches to install at Alleghany and Central parks.

Splitt said the foundation hopes this event also will bring attention to the Grayslake Golf course, which is located on Drury Lane.

“It’s amazing how many people do not know it’s there,” she said. “It’s a nine-hole par-three course, and it’s one of the more challenging par-three courses in the area.”

Receiving a good reception thus far, Splitt said they already are considering ways to improve future events, such as offering a morning and afternoon golf times.

“We want to start small and offer a solid, fun event. Hopefully it will grow from here,” she said.
