Community Corner

What's Being Built at Center and Whitney?

Been wondering what's being built next to Bulldogs Grill in downtown Grayslake? Read on.

If you've driven past the corner of Center and Whitney Streets lately, you've probably been wondering about the construction taking place on the southeast corner next to Bulldogs Grill.

The land at 201 Center St. is being turned into a recreational park area that will include a community hearth, arbor structure, benches and a holiday tree.

The project is part of the Village Center plan that included the construction of the decorative pillars that can be seen around town.

Phase II of the Village Center plan includes the work at Center and Whitney.

According to Deputy Village Manager Derek Soderholm, the park was designed by Daniel Robison Architects. The estimated $475,000 project will feature a 26-foot blue spruce holiday tree, benches, garbage cans, trees and other landscaping, and various patterns of stamped concrete.

The anticipated completion date is Aug. 1.
