Young Queens Crowned to Help Host Lake County Fair

Ingleside's Gabrielle Glashagel named Junior Miss Lake County Fair, Lake Villa's Alyssa Gallarneau named Little Miss Lake County Fair 2011.

There were 48 girls who vied for the titles of Junior Miss and Little Miss Lake County Fair Wednesday evening at the Fairgrounds Expo Center.

Alyssa Gallarneau, 8, of Lake Villa was crowned Little Miss Lake County Fair 2011. Gallarneau is a third grade student at Thompson Elementary and the current Little Miss Lake Villa. She spends time with her sister volunteering at the Lake County Sheriff’s Department where her parents are both reserve deputies.

“We’re so humbled, we’re so honored,” said Patricia of her daughter's crown.

“This is right up her alley,” said Hugh. “She’s the most outgoing little girl and she’ll go full throttle all the time, until she falls asleep. She really enjoys life.”

That was obvious as Alyssa excitedly took the stage as the finalists were named and waved to her older sister, Junior Miss contestant Brittany Gallarneau.

Gallarneau said she loves playing outside and going boating with her friends. In her final interview question Gallarneau said if she could be any animal at the fair she would “be a sheep so she could have fun and run around with her friends. And, they’re so cute.”

Junior Miss Lake County Fair 2011

11-year-old Gabrielle Glashagel of Ingleside took the crown of Junior Miss Lake County Fair 2011 Wednesday evening. Glashagel, a seventh grade student at St. Bede School was the first runner-up for the Junior Miss Grant Township pageant this year.

Gabrielle’s mom anxiously waited by the stage to talk with her daughter. “She worked so hard for this. She practiced and practiced a lot,” said Cindy Glashagel. “I let her decide what she wanted to do and she did great. We’re so proud of her.”

A tearful grandma was surprised to hear the results. Marilyn Hessler said she thought her granddaughter looked breathtaking and thought Gabrielle winning the crown was “simply unbelievable.”

Even after several moments and dozens more photographs Gabrielle said she was still shaking. “I’m really looking forward to being at the fair this week and talking with everyone. It’s going to be fun.”

Finalists for the Junior Miss competition included first runner-up Teaghan Callaway, a seventh-grade student at Palombi Middle School; second runner-up, Amanda England, an eighth-grade student at Emmons School; Kierstin Thompson, an eighth-grader at Oak Grove School and Samantha Pokorny, a seventh-grader at St. Gilbert Catholic School.
