Kohl's to be Open Thanksgiving Night: Grayslake Residents Respond

Do you plan to go out shopping on Thanksgiving?

The news that Kohl's stores would join the growing list of retailers to open their doors on Thanksgiving night sparked quite the conversation among Grayslake residents.

The overwhelming feeling from those who commented on the Grayslake Patch Facebook page was that opening stores on Thanksgiving is generally a bad idea.

Here's what some readers had to say:

  • "Thanksgiving gets overlooked enough. It's still and important holiday that should be observed, not shopped."
  • "Now that several have started the trend, the rest have to hop on the bandwagon to be competitive. We can all choose to NOT shop that night, which will force them to reevaluate!"
  • "I will not shop on Thanksgiving Day. In the last 10 years, I have only shopped once on the day after."
Another reader said he doesn't blame retailers for opening on Thanksgiving night, adding that if shoppers didn't show up, the stores wouldn't be open.

"But people come, so I would be open, too," he said.

One reader said stores can be open "as long as they are paying double time and work is by volunteer only."
