Local Business Aims to Expand Inventory Through Crowdsourcing Campaign

The Fitting Room in downtown Grayslake is aiming to raise $10,000.

Would you like the chance to help a local business expand?

The Fitting Room, owned by Grayslake resident Bex Anderson, is running a crowdsourcing campaign on Lucky Ant with the goal of expanding the lingerie shop's inventory—including the addition of mastectomy bras.

Donors can either make a straight donation or purchase deals, like a $75 Fitting Room gift certificate for just $50, a private party at the shop for $99 (regularly priced at $175) or a bra makeover package for $199 (regularly priced at $275).

"I think it's something awesome," said Anderson, who started the crowdsourcing campaign Sept. 3.

She opened The Fitting Room 10 months ago. The shop offers bra fittings, specialty bras and hard-to-find sizes. Anderson opened the shop with no working capital.

"Everything here I paid for outright," said Anderson. She only uses the money from day-to-day sales to purchase additional inventory.

For now, Anderson is aiming to raise $10,000 through her Lucky Ant page. There are just 11 days left in the campaign.

"I figured $10,000 would be reasonable," said Anderson.

Offering mastectomy bras would itself be a sizable expense, between gaining the certification needed and buying the costly bras.

"That's a huge goal of mine," said Anderson. "I've had two dozen women who came in during the past few months asking about that."

If you'd like to donate to The Fitting Room's campaign, visit the shop's Lucky Ant page. The Fitting Room is located at 11 S. Lake St., Grayslake.
