Tailgating at The Ohio State University - Where Friendships & Football Meet

Tailgating is an art for these Ohio State Football Fans.  I was lucky enough to join them last year during our annual Illinois Football Roadtrip and I have to say I was blown away.  First of all, the team spirit there is overwhelming.  From the moment you drive into Columbus on game day you can feel it - there is a definite vibe and their fans are up and ready to party.

Nearly 30 years ago, 2 key members of this group (OSU roommates) decided they would tailgate at every home game and haven't missed one yet.  Others have joined the Saturday "Parking Lot Party" and now they even take their tailgating extravaganza on the road going to California in September and making plans for the Navy/OSU game next year.  Their setup includes a spread of wonderful foods & beverages that is planned down to the last chip.  That's right, on the Wednesday before game day, the menu is set and the calls are made confirming what is on everyone's list.  We brought Ohio State themed cookies which blended in perfectly with the array of treats and sea of red & white.  They tailgate for 5 hours before kick-off and 2 hours after the game ends. Rain, sleet, snow or shine - they will be there.

So here's the real question… Is this all really about the Buckeyes - the football team, the amazing band, the enormous stadium & the mounds of food or is it about something so much bigger?  (They would probably be upset with me for suggesting there is something bigger than Ohio State Football…but I did it anyway)   My guess is they would say that football is great but their football family is even greater!
