D46 Destination Imagination Team "Sizzling Bacon" Thanks You

Thank you for supporting DI team Sizzling Bacon in their Global Tournament fundraising efforts.

On behalf of the D46 Destination ImagiNation team, Sizzling Bacon, we would like to thank the D46 community for their generous support in helping these kids attend the Global Tournament last month.

Whether you baked good for a bake sale, made a purchase, attended a dine and share, or made a small donation, your support was invaluable and tremendously appreciated by the kids, their families and the Foundation. Thank you!

The kids had a wonderful time at the tournament! They competed against 82 of the best Elementary Structural Challenge DI teams from around the world and ranked a very respectable 46th. They buddied with a team from Guatemala for the week and had the opportunity to meet other children from all over the world, trading pins from their various states and countries.

Here’s a little perspective on what the experience offered these kids:

A Parent’s Take

“There were 'camps' that the kids could sign up for and the expo center offered plenty to see and do, including the NASA 3m challenge. The buddy teams was a great experience as well. We supported them and they supported us. The coaches set up times to get together and learn about each other and from each other.  When I think of the three core ideals that DI is about (i.e., creativity, teamwork and problem solving) I think that they need to add a fourth...self-confidence. This parent sees this program as a huge developer of that very critical skill. I have seen my son and each of the kids on our team gain huge strides in their self confidence (as well as their self control). They respect each other and themselves. You can be creative and learn to work on a team and problem solve, but if you don't learn to have confidence in yourself you will never be a leader."

A Child’s Take

"My favorite part of the DI Global Tournament experience was pin trading because you get to socialize with people from Canada, Kentucky, Colorado, and places like that. I also really liked our buddy team (they were from Guatemala). I think on our challenge that we did good because we got all 24 golf balls into our structure and around 285 pounds of weight on. I think on our instant challenge we did pretty good and that it was very creative. We got to do a Ta Da! after our instant challenge and that was really fun. Awesome! Fun! Sleepless! Indescribable!"

Again, thank you for your tremendous support! These kids truly would not have had this experience without you.
