Get Out: 5K Run, Dog Days, Antiques And More

Where / When: Center Street, Downtown Grayslake; 6:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturday, July 9.

Why Go?: Run or walk to help support the Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund. Each year, scholarships are awarded to students from Grayslake or students who attend or High Schools. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. The children's race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8 a.m.

Pricing: $20 in advance; $25 on race day

Where/When: in Libertyville; 12 p.m. - 8 p.m., Friday, July 8 and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10.

Why Go?: Visit the , who are all dog-friendly, for some doggy related events. Attend some educational and family oriented activities at Cook Park. The will have vets, rescue groups, dog trainers and more. Then go to the X-Treme Dog Park to see dogs in a jumping competition. The dogs will jump off a dock into a 27,000 gallon foot pool to see which dog has the longest leap. 150 professional DockDogs will be competing in the Road to National Championship 2011. Where / When: Lake County Discovery Museum, 27277 N. Forest Preserve Rd., Wauconda; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday, July 9 and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Sunday, July 10.

Why Go?: Two-day living history event in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Cavalry, infantry and artillery reenactors, musicians and civilians. Large-scale battle re-enactment, activities for kids and Civil War era shopping.

Pricing: $7 for adults; $3 for children; free for children 3 years and under; 2-day admission is $11 per adult and $5 per child ages 3 and up

Where / When: Robert T. Wright Gallery of Art at the ; 7 - 9 p.m. Friday, July 8.

Why Go?: To celebrate the opening of an exhibit of more than 40 prints by the late Letterio Calapai and 19 of his friends, an opening reception will be held in the gallery.The reception is free and open to the public.There will be complimentary refreshments and Celtic music entertainment by Tom Bradfish on Irish whistles, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica, melodica and bodhran, and Daphne Freund on Irish harp.The exhibit runs through Aug. 12.
