Get Out: 9/11 Events, Buddy Walk, Art Festival and More

Where / When: Stadium; 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday, September 11.

Why Go?: Celebrate American heroes and show appreciation for their dedication while remembering 9/11 at this community event sponored by local Cub Scouts and students and teachers from the Public Service Practicum Class at Grayslake North High School. Activities will include performances by the Grayslake Knights marching band and choir, face painting by the school's art club, carnival games with patriotic themes, touch-a-truck with fire, police and public works trucks on site. Public service organizations will also be on hand to provide information on how all Americans can help their communities.  

Pricing: Free admission.

Where / When: ; 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturday, September 10.

Why Go?: Take walk through Independence Grove for a great cause. Sorry, no dogs are allowed.

Pricing: $25 per person; $20 per person for teams of 5 or more people.

Where / When: ; 4 - 7 p.m., Sunday, September 11.

Why Go?: 20 question trivia event. Silent auction, raffles and prizes, pizza, drinks and dessert. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. This event is being hosted by Anne Sullivan and Kim Jansen of Grayslake who are raising donations for the 2011 Detroit Marathon on Oct. 16.

Pricing: $15 per person.

Where / When: , 5 - 6:30 p.m., Sunday, September 11.

Why Go?: This is the new nightlife. Nightclub Zumba is a fitness party filled with hot moves and lots of laughs. Do something that's good for you and have some fun. Sunday at Austin's brings dinner specials for families with great food and discounts. Come for the workout and stay for dinner.

Pricing: $15 in advance; $20 at the door.

Where / When: ; 12 - 5 p.m., Sunday, September 11.

Why Go?: The annual DDC Buddy Walk includes live entertainment, a silent auction, raffles, inflatables, kids games and more fun-filled activities for the whole family to enjoy. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Pricing: Free admission.

Where / When: Kracklauer Park, 100 N. Seymour Ave., Mundelein; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11.

Why Go?: First annual juried art festival featuring the work of dozens of fine artists and performers. Live music and food from local restaurants. Fun for the whole family.

Pricing: Free admission.

Where / When: Outdoor Theater at the Cuneo Mansion, 1350 N. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills; 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 9 and 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11.

Why Go?: See the play, Oh, What a Bloody Good Friday: A Playful Mystery, by Loyola University English Professor, Terence Boyle. The play contains adult language and may not be appropriate for children.

Pricing: $18 for adults; $15 for students and seniors.

 

8.

 Where / When: , 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10.  

Why Go?: Opening concert of the 2011-2012 season will feature local composer Jim Stephenson's Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Concertmaster Ilya Kaler in the Saint-Saens Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso. Free pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m.  

Pricing: $16 - $54 per ticket.
