Get Out: GNHS Homecoming Parade, Pet Expo And More

Where / When: ; beginning at 5 p.m.; Friday, September 23.

Why Go?: Watch the sophomores play at 5, the golf cart parade at 6:30 and the varsity football game at 7:15. Come out and cheer for the Knights.

Pricing: Unavailable.


2. 

Where / When: ; 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25.

Why Go?: Largest pet show in Northwest suburbs. Full day of fun for the whole family. Vendors, entertainment and product education.

Pricing: $6 for adults; free for children 16 years old and younger.

Where / When: Lake County Discovery Museum; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25.

Why Go?: The Lake County Discovery Museum and the Lake County Farm Heritage Association present a celebration of farm life from the turn of the century to the present at the Lake County Discovery Museum at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda. Tractor parade at 1:30 p.m. See a display of over 200 tractors, steam engines and antique cars. Visit the petting zoo from 11 a.m - 4 p.m. See a sheep herding demonstration, hear live music, watch scarecrow making and take a ride on a wagon and a barrel train. All ages are welcome to attend. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Pricing: $8 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 and up, youth ages 4 - 17; free for children 3 and under; $12 for 2-day pass for adults; $6 for 2-day pass for seniors and youth.

Where / When: Van Patten Woods, Sterling Lake Canoe Launch, Wadsworth; 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, September 24.

Why Go?: Help paddle the giant canoe and learn about the Voyageurs and their 18th Century fur trade in Lake County. Must be 9 years old or older to participate. Adult supervision is required. Please register online or by calling 847-968-3321.

Pricing: $7 per person for Lake County residents; $10 per person for non-residents.

Where / When: Rollins Savanna, Washington Street entrance; 9 a.m., Saturday, September 24.

Why Go?: Grab some work gloves and come out to join other volunteers in saving some of Lake County's natural areas. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors and make a meaningful contribution. All ages are welcome.

Pricing: Free.

 

6.

Where / When: , Libertyville; 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25.

Why Go?: Trains from Valley Model Railroads, some with smoke, steam-engines and sound, will be at Lambs Farm. Kids can operate traffic controls on model trains, create train related crafts and much more.

Pricing: Prices range from $2 - $10 for activities.
