Get Out: Summer Days, Vintage Baseball, Community Campfire and More

Where / When: Downtown Grayslake, Municipal Parking Lot at Center Street and Seymour Avenue; 5 p.m. - midnight; Friday, August 19 and 11 a.m. - midnight, Saturday, August 20.

Why Go?: The activities will include music, food, carnival games and activities for the whole family. The Bike and Pet Parade is at noon on Saturday on Slusser Street. The Summer Days Parade, with a full display of floats, bands and civic organizations, is at 7 p.m. on Saturday. It will begin at Grayslake Central High School, travel south on Lake Street to Center Street, then Center Street to the festival site on Seymour Avenue. Where/When: Aquatic Softball Field in Central Park; 2 p.m., Sunday, August 21.

Why Go?: The Grayslake Heritage Center is sponsoring this fun event. Athletes of all ages will stage an 1850s style baseball game. Learn how different the rules were in the 19th Century and cheer on the players.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Greenbelt Forest Preserve in North Chicago; 7 - 9 p.m., Friday, August 19.

Why Go: Enjoy the magic of the last campfire of the summer, roast marshmallows, listen to music, tell stories, make crafts and more at this family event. Experience nature at night. Enter from the west side of Green Bay Road, south of Belvidere Road, across from the entrance to the Greenbelt Cultural Center. Meet at Shelter D. This event is free and no registration is required.

Pricing: Free.

Where / When: Brushwood, the former estate of the Ryerson family at Ryerson Woods in Riverwoods; 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., Saturday, August 20.

Why Go?: Take a tour of and then see a selection of short films out on the lawn, under the stars. The films showcase green design around the world. (If it rains, the films will be shown inside the Welcome Center.) This event is open to anyone age 12 and older.

Pricing: Free but a $10 donation is suggested and appreciated.
