Gardening for Kids - Mom's Day Gift: Bloomers (Grades 1-5)

Mother's Day is usually prime planting time. What better gift than pot of flowers you planted just for her? Have fun decorating the pot by drawing and writing on it with chalk. You can erase it and start over as much as you want. It's a great way to make a special gift for your mom. Wear gardening clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. All other sup0plies are included in class fee.

Handmade Specialties Spring Craft Show

Handmade Specialties will hold its Spring Craft Show at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. A special craft supply sale will be held in conjunction with the show. Visitors will not only have the chance to browse through beautiful crafts by local artisans, but also purchase craft supplies at a deep discount. Items include soap making ingredients, baskets, floral, wood blanks, beads, scrapbook paper, stickers, stamps and holiday craft supplies.

Raffles will be awarded every hour. The proceeds from the raffle tickets will benefit Animal Protection Association’s low cost spay and neuter program, and Underdog Rescue’s animal rescue group in Antioch. Learn about crafting and shop unique handmade gifts such as jewelry, quilted crafts, candles, home decor and much more.

 

It's Cinco de Mayo Time! @ Dress Up & Dance!

Sparkle & Shine, It's Cinco de Mayo Time! Have a Salsa Lesson with Mauricio at 8 p.m. This is a non-alcohol adult dance club with appetizers and $1 beverage bar.

 

Photographing in Nature

In a two-Saturday class that provides hands-on fun with a camera, students learn to enhance nature photos. The first two sessions include morning classroom activities followed by practice at a scenic location. Here, your instructor will coach as you practice what you learned. On the shortened third day you’ll share images from the second field trip and receive instructor feedback. Bring five samples of your photography in .jpg files on a USB Flash Drive or CD to the first class. Also, bring water and a sack lunch with a beverage. Requirements: For the first two classes, bring a tripod and an adjustable digital camera (can manually change shutter speed, lens aperture/f-stop, ISO, etc.). Participants must provide transportation to field locations. Classes will be held on May 5 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and  May 12 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

 

Harrier Rugby Football Club vs Fenwick High School

The Harrier Rugby Football Club is a high school rugby team represented by students from throughout Lake County including Grayslake, Mundelein, Libertyville, Lake Bluff, and Lake Forest. They are currently undefeated heading into their final regular season match against a tough, one loss Fenwick club. If the Harriers win, they will earn the #1 seed in the state playoffs. 

The Harrier vs. Fenwick match will be followed by a Super League match (highest level of rugby) between the Chicago Griffins and Old Puget Sound at 2 p.m. and a B-level match between the Griffins B and Fox Valley at 4 p.m. Come out for some great rugby action. No admission and all are welcome.

 

Lake Forest Orchesis Spring Dance Concert

Lake Forest High School Orchesis Dance Club presents its annual spring dance concert Friday May 4. It features a variety of dance styles including ballet, hip hop and tap. This show is family friendly.

 

Ken Ludwig's Lend Me a Tenor

Swing into spring with Citadel Theatre’s rousing rendition of Ken Ludwig’s hilarious farce, Lend Me a Tenor.  The play opens Friday, May 4 and runs through Sunday, June 3, with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. There will also be a special Wednesday matinee at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. Robert Estrin is the director and Ryan Elliott the producer of this fun farce, a sensation in previous runs on Broadway and in London’s West End.

The hilarity is set in 1934 as the Cleveland Grand Opera Company welcomes world famous tenor Tito Morelli to perform for the gala season opener. All is ready for the sensational entrance of the renowned songster, the orchestra cued up for his entrance, the stage set, but with just minutes to curtain, Morelli has gone missing. Stuck in a predicament, the general manager coaxes his assistant Max into going on as Morelli for the performance. Soon the door-slamming farce spins out-of-control, both onstage and off, with mistaken identities, striking comic appearances, and plot twists galore.  

Tickets are $35 for Thursday or Sunday performances, $37.50 Friday or Saturday.  Discounts are available for groups, seniors, and students. Tickets are available by calling , or through the website,. Since all locations in the 150 seat arena-style theatre are prime, general unreserved seating prevails at all performances.

A Toast to Ragdale

A Toast to Ragdale celebrates the grand reopening of the Ragdale House with ragtime music, roaring 20’s décor, an exquisite dinner, dancing and the first opportunity to tour the recently restored Ragdale House. Following a year-long, $3.2 million renovation,  the Ragdale House, the Arts and Craft summer residence of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, has been painstakingly restored to its 1926 splendor. The black tie and flapper set are invited to kick up their heels at this fun-filled party under a handsome outdoor canopy to benefit The Ragdale Foundation. Corporate sponsors of the event are: Bulley & Andrews, LLC, Rosborough Partners and Johnson Lasky Architects.

A Toast to Ragdale benefits the Ragdale Foundation, a non-profit artist residency, that has provided artists with time and space to pursue their creative work in an uninterrupted environment for over 30 years. All the proceeds support the Ragdale operation and residencies of writers, visual artists, composers and interdisciplinary artists. With the renovation of The Ragdale House, over 200 artists/year can be accommodated  in 2-4 week residencies for many years to come.

 

Exchange club of Libertyville, Mundelein, & Vernon Hills Pancake Breakfast

Pancake Breakfast to raise funds and raise awareness for the prevention of child abuse. Awards will be given for Firefighter of the Year, Policeman of the Year, Student of the Year, and for accepting the challenge of excellence. Fire Department community event for awareness of fire safety.

 

Rummage Sale

Items for sale include furniture, sporting goods, household items, clothing, fashion accessories, jewelry, toys, craft items, books, seasonal decorations, baby goods and more.  Proceeds benefit local and global mission projects supported by the United Methodist Women.
