Grayslake Heritage Center Accepting Amateur Photos for Exhibit

The exhibit will open May 11.

Grayslake area amateur photographers are invited to showcase their talent at the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum this spring. The museum will display photographs by local contributors as part of a new exhibition, Picture This: Celebrating Grayslake. Categories include people, places and events.

Submitted photographs should have been taken in the greater Grayslake area in the past five years by local photographers. For purposes of definition, the greater Grayslake area includes the 60030 ZIP code or residency in an area serviced by one or more Grayslake units of government. All photographs should be suitable for family audiences. Photographers whose work includes people should have permission from their subjects to publicly display submitted photographs.

Photographs should be delivered ready to hang (e.g. framed, matted or otherwise submitted with appropriate picture wires or hangers installed). Any size up to 16” x 20” with frame gladly accepted. Please include a brief, 2-3 sentence description of your photograph for use in the exhibition, together with a brief biography. An entry form may be found at www.grayslakeheritagecenter.com under the “Coming Soon” section of the “Exhibitions” page. Limit one entry per person. Photographs will be received on a first come, first served basis, with final decision for inclusion by the museum’s Exhibition Committee.

Submissions will be gladly accepted on a first come, first served basis prior to the show’s opening on May 11. In addition to a physical copy of the photograph, ready to hang, photographers are asked to submit a digital copy of their photo with a resolution of at least 200 dpi. Digital copies will be used to publicize the event.

The exhibition will open May 11 and run through July. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite photographs with their dollars. Proceeds will be split between the Grayslake Historical Society and the top vote getter. All entries will receive a certificate of participation with the winner in each category announced the day of the Grayslake Arts Festival, June 15. In addition, the Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry may select some images for inclusion in their annual guide.
