UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Friday

UPDATE, Jan. 19, 3:05 p.m.

The National Weather Service has now issued a winter weather advisory for Friday. The winter storm watch is no longer in effect.

The advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. Friday until midnight. According to the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to start falling during the mid- to late-morning hours, with the heaviest snow forecast to fall in the afternoon. About 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected, with locally higher amounts possible.

Winter Weather Advisories inform you that winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences that may be hazardous, according to the NWS.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northeastern Illinois on Friday, Jan. 20, including Lake County, with significant snowfall accumulation expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to begin falling Friday morning and continue through the evening with totals expected to reach 6 inches or possibly as much as 10 inches. The heaviest snow is expected to fall from Friday afternoon into evening, impacting the Friday night commute home.

Friday's high temperature will be near 21 with a wind chill as low as zero. Calm wind becoming east southeast between 5 and 10 mph. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
