Want To Visit A Preschool Open House? Like Musical Dinner Theatre? Get Out There

  • Why Go: The Grayslake Cooperative Nursery School (GCNS) is holding an Open House for families of children ages 2-5 interested in registering for the 2012-2013 school year. Families are invited to tour the school, meet staff members, and talk with alumni families. The oldest cooperative nursery school in the area, GCNS offers a variety of two-day, three-day and five-day options. GCNS is located in The Shops of Prairie Crossing in Grayslake. Registration for former GCNS families begins Monday, Jan. 30. Registration will be open to the public on Monday, Feb. 6.
  • GCNS welcomes families from Grayslake, Hainesville, Round Lake, Gurnee, Mundelein, Libertyville and surrounding areas. The preschool has been providing area children with a quality preschool experience for more than thirtyfive years since its founding in 1976 by a group of local mothers looking for an enriching and nurturing preschool.

  • Why Go: Woodland Middle School's Drama Club is proud to present "Much Ado about Coconuts". The life of a lazy American Consul and his assistant are turned upside down when a proper Ms. Garfield is sent to their tiny island to shape things up. Things only get worse, however, when they accept a business offer to sell shoes in a place where almost no one wears shoes! To make matters even more confusing, agents, and a wannabe play director invade their precious island and all want something different from this kooky Island call El Cansado. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

  • Why Go: Bring children ages 2 to 5 to experience a Waldorf preschool classroom. Children and parents will start the morning together with bread making. Children will then engage in free play, story time and circle as parents tour the school, learn more about Waldorf education and talk with other parents. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited.

  • Why Go: The Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) will host its annual fundraiser and all are welcome to attend. This year's event, Casino Royale, is a good bet. For $75/person ($85/person, at the door), guests receive game chips, and are treated to complimentary food, wine, beer and soft drinks for the entire evening. Silent Auction items, including an Aerobatic Flight, signed sports memorabilia, sporting event tickets and much more, will also be available for bid. Bring a few friends and enjoy an evening on the town. This event helps raise money to send two 12U LFBA teams to the annual Cooperstown Hall of Fame Tournament in New York.

  • Why Go: Mellencougar is made up of a group of musicians from the Illinois/Wisconsin scene. The shared experiences described in John’s lyrics bring the audience and band together while singing songs about youthful lust in songs like "Hurt So Good", "Ain't Even Done With The Night" and "I Need A Lover." In songs such as "Check It Out", "Small Town" and "Jack and Diane" you are reminded of what is truly important in life and how to recognize it. Mellencougar has shared the stage with Eddie Money, Blake Shelton, the Spin Doctors, Styx, Night Ranger, Jamey Johnson and many other national acts.

John & Jen tells the story of Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother, who was killed in Vietnam, and his namesake, her son who is trying to find his way in a confusing world. With a cast of only two people, A chamber musical, beautifully scored for piano, cello and percussion, John & Jen is a musical about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart. Dinner provided by Wisma (www.wisma.us). Cash bar available.

  • Why Go: Registration is now open for Libertyville Girls Softball Association House League. This is for girls currently in school grades Pre-K to 12 and through the end of January, there is an “Early Bird” discount for those who register early. Practice starts in mid-April, games begin mid-May and go through the playoffs in early July. Based on age, there are several levels of play, including Peanut’s T’Ball PreK/K, Rookie’s 1st and 2nd, Minor’s 3rd and 4th, Major’s 5th and 6th, Senior’s 7th and 8th, and a High School Division. This program is for girls who want to learn to play and also have fun. All games are held at Nicholas Dowden Park, Odom Field, and the Libertyville Sports Complex.
