Job Search 2014 - Focus Outward

The job search challenge is oftentimes overwhelming and feels all encompassing. If you have been "on the hunt" during a job or career transition, you may not have thought about engaging in outside activities - after all, you've prioritized your job search to the exclusion of all else. Getting that job has become your GOAL. The leaders at The Chapel's Employment Ministry would like to encourage you to "think outside the box" by finding a new (even fun) activity to become involved in while you continue searching. Activities like sports and/or other exercises, an art class, photography or a class at your local junior college can be helpful in a few ways: 1. Physical activity can help with anxiety and worry - and you will sleep better at night as well. 2. Engaging in a hobby can help you recharge your "passion" battery so you have increased energy to devote to your job search. 3. Taking a class can help you to use your brain for other things besides rehearsing that elevator speech. Intellectual stimulation makes you a more interesting person! 4. Who knows? You may even find that these activities provide a secondary benefit of a new place to network - and your workout pal or classmate just might lead you to your dream job! Remember to get yourself some support, too. The Chapel's Employment Ministry's next ad hoc meeting is Monday, January 6, 2014 from 7pm - 8:30pm at the Libertyville Campus (1200 American Way). For more information, contact Cathy at cwoodside@chapel.org. Happy New Year!
