Senator Bush to host foreclosure prevention event in Round Lake Park

Lake County has one of the worst foreclosure rates in the state and a housing market that is still unable to meet the demand for affordable housing.  Although property values are recovering, Lake County foreclosure rates remain in the top three in the State of Illinois. 

That is one of the reasons that State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) is bringing the State of Illinois’ Mortgage Relief Project (MRP) to the area this year.

Senator Bush will host the foreclosure prevention workshop on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at W.J. Murphy Elementary School in Round Lake Park (220 Greenwood Dr, Round Lake Park, IL).

“Experience shows that when homeowners facing foreclosure are given the opportunity to meet with their lenders and foreclosure-prevention experts, good things can happen,” said Bush.  “Many times there are avenues homeowners don’t know are available to them – that’s why we want to provide this opportunity for a homeowner to meet face-to-face with their lender.”

MRP is a part of the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network and is dedicated to providing information and resources that can help homeowners take advantage of programs to lower their mortgages, avoid foreclosure and keep their homes.  Homeowners meet with lenders, HUD-approved housing counselors and specialists from the offices of Governor Pat Quinn and Attorney General Lisa Madigan. They received hand-tailored advice about mortgage modification and foreclosure.

Homeowners interested in attending the August 2 event should bring the following paperwork in order to make the most of the counseling: 

• Mortgage statement
• 2012 and 2013 W-2 and tax return with all schedules
• Copy of rental agreement, if necessary
• Two months of most recent paystubs
• Budget of household expenses
• Documentation of other income
• Two months of most recent bank statements
• All recent utility bills
• Profit/Loss Statement, if self-employed (last 6 months)
